The growing demand for professional pilots is expected to continue for at least the next 15 years. Airlines will be competing to hire the most skilled and qualified pilots, and you want to be sure you stand out in a field of applicants. American Flight Schools will help you gain the skills and experience you need to be a top choice for airline recruiters. Instead of training to minimum standards, we train to a high standard of proficiency using a proven curriculum. We teach you more than just how to pass a test. And we do it all at a lower cost than other flight training schools.
Once you earn your Certified Flight Instructor Rating at American Flight Schools, you will be at the top of the hiring pool to become a full-time flight instructor. You will then build your flight experience while earning money in a fun, friendly environment. Ultimately you need multiple certificates and ratings, leading up to an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. American Flight Schools can help you achieve each step along the way.
- Private Pilot Certificate – Your primary (first) pilot license. It allows you to fly an airplane by yourself in visual flight conditions with passengers.
- Instrument Rating – This next step in the process allows you to fly in the clouds instead of around the clouds.
- Commercial Pilot Certificate – A Commercial Pilot allows you to charge money for services.
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) – Teach others to fly while getting paid and building flight time.
Upon completion of the above certificates, you are eligible for hire by American Flight Schools as a Flight Instructor. Enjoy the benefits of a large, well-maintained fleet or airplanes, working alongside experienced mentor-instructors, and a steady stream of students.
Additional Ratings
Earn the following add-on ratings at the same time you are working as a flight instructor.
- Multi-Engine Rating – Fly airplanes with more than one engine.
- Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Rating (CFII) – Teach instrument flying skills to other pilots.
- Multi-Engine Instructor Rating (MEI) – Teach in airplanes with more than one engine.
Program Options
Before you begin your journey to becoming a Professional Pilot, there are a few checklist items to complete during the application process. The steps outlined below will help you get started and be ready for departure.

Take a Discovery Flight – A Discovery Flight is typically the first step to becoming a Pilot. If you have already completed a Discovery Flight and are ready to proceed with enrolling in a Professional Pilot Program, then you can skip to requesting a Registration Packet. Otherwise, to book a Discovery Flight at your nearest American Flight Schools location, visit our Take a Discovery Flight page.

Request a Registration Packet – Contact us to get the Registration Packet, it contains information on what is needed to get started and what items are students expected to show up with on the first day of class.
3.
Pick Your Package – The American Flight Schools Professional Pilot Program offers a variety of pathways into the aviation industry as a Professional Pilot. You choose the path that is right for you. We offer 4 levels of pilot training that include everything from Private Pilot to Multi-Engine Instructor.

Finance Your Flight Training – This program requires the total program cost to be prepaid in 3 installments. The initial 1/3 payment is due prior to your start date. If you have the full program cost saved up, congratulations. If you need to obtain financing, American Flight Schools has partnered with Stratus Financial to offer affordable solutions. Financing must be secured prior to the issuance of a class start date.
