Rental Options
MEMBERSHIP
Membership
If you fly more than about one hour each month, membership typically pays for itself through discounted rental rates.
MEMBERS RECEIVE
- Discounted aircraft rental rates
- Access to member pricing on select courses and training
- Greater scheduling flexibility, including after-hours aircraft access (where available)
- Discounted instructor rates
- Self-service online scheduling through Aviatize
GUEST
Guest (Non-Member) Rentals
Flexible aircraft rentals for pilots who don’t need a membership. Ideal for flight reviews, specialized training, visiting domestic and international pilots, and aircraft owners who occasionally need to rent.
GUEST RENTERS
- No monthly dues. Membership paperwork is still required.
- $25 insurance surcharge per flight.
- Guest rental and instructor rates apply.
- Complete a standard checkout before renting.
- Reservations available 8AM–5PM. Deposit required for non-members.
BEFORE YOUR FIRST RENTAL
Rental Requirements & Checkout
Rental Requirements
Before renting an aircraft, pilots must:
- Complete the American Flight Schools rental paperwork
- Provide proof of citizenship or required identification
- Present pilot certificate, current medical (if required), and logbook
- Complete an aircraft checkout with an American Flight Schools instructor
RESERVATION DEPOSITS
Deposit requirements vary based on your reservation. Please contact your local American Flight Schools location for current deposit information and booking policies.
Aircraft Checkout
All renters complete a checkout before solo rental, including:
- Aircraft systems review
- Local procedures
- Safety procedures
- Aircraft handling evaluation
- Emergency procedures
ADDITIONAL TRAINING
Additional training may be required depending on the aircraft or your previous experience.
International Pilots
American Flight Schools welcomes FAA certificated international pilots looking to build flight time or experience flying in the United States.
Before You Arrive
Complete these steps before scheduling your rental.
- Convert your foreign pilot certificate to an FAA pilot certificate (if applicable)
- Provide required documentation prior to scheduling
- Complete an American Flight Schools checkout
- Complete any required mountain training based on planned operations

Prior to scheduling, International pilots should provide:
- Passport
- Medical certificate
- Flight itinerary
- Proof of insurance
- Pilot certificate
- Pilot records
- Signed rental agreement
- Payment information
Typical Pre-Departure Training

Additional documentation may be requested approximately 90 days before arrival for longer rental programs.
Visas & FAA Requirements
International renters are responsible for obtaining the proper travel documentation and meeting all FAA certificate verification requirements before arrival. American Flight Schools cannot issue visas.
International renters are enrolled as Guest (Non-Member) renters and are subject to guest rental rates and policies.

No. Pilots who fly occasionally can rent as Guest (Non-Member) renters.
If you fly regularly—generally more than once each month—the discounted aircraft and instructor rates often offset the monthly membership cost.
Yes. Visiting pilots are welcome after completing the required checkout and paperwork.
Yes. International pilots who meet FAA requirements and complete our checkout process are welcome to rent aircraft.
No. A Multi-Engine Rating can be added to a Private, Commercial, or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. However, many pilots choose to earn it after completing their Commercial Pilot Certificate and Instrument Rating.
Yes. Depending on availability and your qualifications, renters may fly from multiple American Flight Schools locations.
